Gavin Dauzart

Organ Donor

February 4, 2024

My Gavin was a vibrant, kind and good human being.
He was tragically taken from this Earth on January 31st.
He would have graduated in May and he had his ENTIRE life ahead of him. However, his journey led him to this place where we sat for days with him on life-support to ensure his story did not end that tragic day. We waited to give the hope of life to others through donation. It gave me, his mother, the chance to watch his chest rise and fall and keep his warm hands in mine just a little while longer, until that moment the doctors came to take parts of his body to give to someone who was meant to receive the hope of life. The grief is overwhelming, but to know that his heart is still beating and his lungs are still breathing brings comfort. I would never have thought that giving life to such a wonderful young man would enable him to be this kind of hero to so many others. It truly has been an honor to be his mother.

Saying thank you

Many donor families find that corresponding with the transplant recipient or recipients can be a powerful experience. Donor families can take comfort in sharing stories and sending well wishes to those who live on because of their loved one.

Should you choose to connect, we're here to help. Letters and cards can be a tremendous gift to both the donor families and recipients. To protect everyone, we provide guidelines for communication. Names remain confidential unless both parties agree to share those with one another, and we provide a correspondence address. We are happy to share sample letters to help you get started.

For more information about corresponding with recipients, please call us at 615-564-3649.

We can only do it together
