Kevin Yates
Organ and Tissue Donor
/January 8, 2011
Kevin was 25 when he became a SUPERHERO! He saved 4 lives with his organs and was also a tissue donor. He had a smile that lit up the room. Kevin loved being with family and friends. He loved to make people laugh and have fun. He was an avid gamer, and Batman was his favorite superhero. He saw the world through eyes of wonder and always tried to see the best no matter how bad things seemed. He was everyone’s best friend. When you talked to Kevin you felt as if you were the only one around in a crowded room. He had a way of making you feel special.
I had the pleasure of meeting two of Kevin’s recipients and it has brought the sweet into a bitter time. They are both wonderful loving men, and Kevin gifted them with more time with their families. I’m so glad Kevin chose to be a superhero, and proud to be his mom! I’m thankful for the 9,253 days I had him here with me. Now half my heart is waiting in Heaven, one day soon it will be whole again. Kevin is in my future. I love and miss you sweet boy!
Saying thank you
Many donor families find that corresponding with the transplant recipient or recipients can be a powerful experience. Donor families can take comfort in sharing stories and sending well wishes to those who live on because of their loved one.
Should you choose to connect, we're here to help. Letters and cards can be a tremendous gift to both the donor families and recipients. To protect everyone, we provide guidelines for communication. Names remain confidential unless both parties agree to share those with one another, and we provide a correspondence address. We are happy to share sample letters to help you get started.
